Connect with Vestas owners - worldwide

At the begining of 2018 one of us posted the challenge: “Vestas V90 2 MW power performance upgrades”. The discussion has already grown considerably, currently with owners from 5 countries, sharing experiences on these upgrades, both aerodynamic upgrades ( gurney flaps, vortex generators) and software upgrades (partial load optimisation).

If you have insights to share on this topic, we invite you to try out our way of collaborating for three months and then decide if it is generating value for you as well.

Contributers will have a three-months trial

Closed for sales pitches open for genuine peer-to-peer discussions

Our members expect us to maintain O2O WIND as an area free from sales pitches and open for genuine peer-to-peer discussions. Energy companies can have all different kinds of business models and some might qualify for becoming part of our peer-to-peer network and other might disqualify. Set up an initial 30 minutes interview and we can discuss if and how your company could become part of O2O WIND.

Satisfied members

Since this collaboration was launched, in 2014, not one single member has left. With great confident that your company will also become a regular member, we offer you a three months trial version.

O2O WIND is founded by seven leading wind asset owners and built in the correct way from start. We fulfil highest standards for IT security and collaborate within a legal framework carefully developed among these seven owners. Coming on-board at the community means that this has to be respected and followed.

Your input on Vestas V90's upgrades

If your company sees collaboration as a way forward and if you believe that your company could collaborate with other owners of Vestas 1.8-2.0 MW turbines, set up an initail interview and let us discuss if and how your company could collaborate with your peers in the Wind industry.

Few examples from 2017...

How to monitor cracks on Vestas foundations with insert ring

Five owners with wind farms in ten countries are discussing a known Vestas issue with gaps between the concrete and the insert ring. They share experiences for various cracks and how to measure this, with which companies, with which method and equipment. They also share how it was solved and how well various solutions worked. Furthermore they discussed what is being done by the OEM and how similar issues are handled by other OEMS.

How to handle water content in gearbox oil?

Levels above alarm level for the ppm parameter led the owner to consider various actions such as silica gel or membrane desiccant breathers. Sharing real values from oil samples, internal oil research and photos, owners from four countries are discussing solutions and how to follow up with particle counters and other methods. Different oil types and brands are also discussed

Underperforming WTGs versus the power curve given by Vestas

Seven owners are giving feedback to a fellow member with odd PC deviations. Controller Software Update is recommended and to check transfer function/ alignment / TC. Pitch or yaw misalignments could also cause these deviations. Consensus was that wind speed reporting seems to be the major issue and a recommendation to ask Vestas whether all WTGs are programmed with the same coefficients for the nacelle anemometer in the turbine controller.

SCADA based CM using Normal Behaviour Models

To monitor several critical components of a WT an owner is doing a trial with SCADA based Condition Monitoring using Normal Behaviour Models. Based on inputs extracted from SCADA data the model should be able to predict a target parameter under normal operating conditions. For anomaly detection the real time signal is compared with the estimated model output. Several owners join the discussion discussing how to get better access to SCADA data, along with better integration in historian systems that allow for engineers to actively monitor and predict performance.

Which are your top three challenges for this week? Would you maybe have different ”top challenges”, if you were updated on what have worked and what have not worked for other owners?

O2O WIND can do two things for you: Keep you updated to focus on the most relevant top challenges and to bring you into discussuions with your peers for how to solve these top challenges.
